Artist's Description
Mission San Francisco Solano, founded on July 4, 1823, was named for Francis Solanus, a missionary to the indigenous population of Peru. He was known as the "Wonder Worker of the New World." Solano Mission is the northernmost of the Spanish missions in California. Restoration was completed in 1913. Today, the Mission is in the Sonoma State Historic Park near the square of downtown Sonoma.
